Teletherapy

What is Telepractice? Telespeech? Teletherapy?
- Telepractice offers the potential to extend clinical services to remote, rural, and under-served populations, and to culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
- Teletherapy is the application of speech-language pathology through distant learning.
Innovative Objective
With the shortage of licensed and certified speech-language pathologists (SLPs) continuing to grow, Clinical Communications, L.P. is offering:
- Speech therapy staffing solutions
- Consulting services focusing on development of an internal program
Our Experience
During the 2006-2007 school year, we experienced first-hand that teletherapy is an efficient and effective way to deliver speech therapy to children.
Thanks to our generous research partners, we acquired extensive knowledge and familiarity with a variety of equipment, networks, and firewall transversals.

The Motivation
Many facilities are unable to recruit a sufficient number of SLPs to meet the demands. The shortage has affected rural areas disproportionately from their urban counterparts that have the benefit of a larger pool of SLPs from which to draw. Unfortunately, the shortage of SLPs is not temporary.
Almost 50% of licensed SLPs are expected to retire in the next 15 years. Retirements combined with a 5% annual attrition rate due to reasons other than retirement is projected to create a national shortage of more than 57,000 unfilled positions by 2010. (Wright, Cherry; ASHA 2006)

“As an active member of several state and national organizations interested in technology and video applications in education, I believe with some certainty that teletherapy is on the forefront of being the next delivery model for speech therapy services.”
